Week Six EOC: "Me X Three"

Three items that define who I am as a person would be my Clarinet, Drawing Tablet, and Art supplies. We’ll start off with the Clarinet. When I was in the sixth grade I joined the Band, and my instrument of choice was the Clarinet. Now that I think about it, I honestly don’t remember why I chose that instrument. Maybe I thought that it would be one of the easiest to learn. (I was wrong ha-ha.) But it wasn’t until a year later that I would own one for myself instead of renting one at school. My mother bought it for me on my birthday, on one condition: to stick to band up until my senior year in high school so that her money didn’t go to waste. Luckily for her I absolutely loved band and ended up being one of the best players in both middle school and high school.

Next up is my Drawing Tablet. Bought it in 2013 I believe. It was around that time when I was just beginning my freshman year in college and was introduced to making digital art on my own. I bought it for around $99 (with my mother’s money of course), and started drawing with it immediately. It was a huge obstacle at first, and being self-taught made it more difficult. But with enough time and practice I’ve become more comfortable with it and have made some of my best pieces because of it.

Last are my Traditional Art Supplies. Regular plain white paper with any pencil or pen were the only tools that I had for drawing, and for years at a time too. But back then that was more than enough to start pushing myself to become the artist that I am today.

Week Five EOC: "Social Networks and Job Hunting"

As the title states, in the modern age of technology it is becoming more and more common for employers to search for qualified workers through social media. By doing so, this gives traditional job boards a run for their money while newer employers are scouting massive social networks such as Facebook for example. In a 2011 study it stated that, "Candidates have been 50% more likely to apply to positions they found through Facebook than through other means..." (Job Recruiters Turn To Facebook To Find Candidates; The Wall Street Journal) Since the study, Facebook accounts that are for hiring made up only 1% at the time. But that didn't stop the trend from growing and spreading rapidly. Another trend that seems to be going on is recruiters hiring customers and turning them into influential brand ambassadors for their companies.

They only choose those who are fully dedicated to their product(s) and have decent-sized social groups. Once they do, the companies place them into training programs and give them the latest technology, merchandise, and any other items that the ambassadors will need to promote. Companies such as JetBlue, Sony, Microsoft, McDonald's, etc. have joined the game. JetBlue has come to the realization that those,"...who are typically thought of as influentials. The best ambassadors, he says, are "friendly, everyday brand loyalists who love to talk to people." (Marketing: An Introduction Chapter 5 page 144) And this is them talking about their young adult brand ambassadors. In all honesty, I would not mind one bit if I could go for a position like this for a company or brand that I love. If I had the opportunity, I would probably go for one that was food relate. Oh, my goodness that would fantastic. Especially if one of the perks would be able to travel for free, just for food tasting.

Week Four EOC: "New App"

The assignment was to come up with a new app for smart phones that would be beneficial to both myself and to the world. It took me a while to come up with an original idea, seeing as how there are practically hundreds of thousands of different apps that have already been created. But I did manage to come up with one idea. Since nowadays if you are someone with a phone that can access the internet/handle apps, you are more than likely using your phone 24/7. Whether you're using it for business or personal reasons, you expect your phone to be charged, have unlimited uses, and reliable whenever you may need it. But that isn't the case for most people.  As a solution, I thought that having an app that could tackle the challenges and relieve your worries in just one quick fix.

An app that allows you unlimited minutes and access to the internet, being connected to the U.S. Satellite, while also preserving your battery life for an abounding amount of time. It would be called, "Conserve Suite". The app will be a free communication service including Wi-Fi, no matter where you may be, and a special optimizing feature that will conserve you battery life for long periods of time. If this app were real, I would download it in a heartbeat. Knowing from past experiences, having and phone with even a basic plan can be so expensive and challenging to keep up with the payments. As someone who doesn't always have the means to pay for something, an app like the Conserve Suite would definitely lift a load off of my shoulders. You never know when you will need a phone in an emergency and not having the minutes or connection to make a simple phone call.
